Soustons is divided into two areas. The Town of Soustons,
some 7 kms inland from the coast, but located on the southerly end of a large Lake, the
"Etang de Soustons" with an overall area of 700² hectares (4,270² acres or
69² miles). The town with its two lakes is very popular with sailing enthusiasts. The
available hire of sailing craft ranges from wind surfing boards, sailing dinghies, 420's
and catamarans, with lessons available for groups, schools or individuals all year around.
The local Nautical clubs also cater for canoeing & kayaking and rowing of all types.
In the Summer for the children and adults alike Pedalos are available on both lakes and
the lake Port d'Albret has electric boats.
As a by the way, the ex President Mitterand of France, owned a house in Soustons which he
and his family frequently visited for holidays, a statue of this famous statesman and his
dog stands outside the Office de Tourism.
The other area is Soustons Plage on the large natural sea fed, salt water lake (with its
own beaches & Island) known as the "Lac Marin de Port d'Albret", with an
overall area of 51² hectares (311² acres or 5² miles). For this area of Soustons,
